Visionary Women will be honoring activist and actress Jane Fonda for a lifetime of accomplishments on the silver screen and far beyond. Throughout her eight decades in the spotlight, Jane has used her Hollywood royalty status as a platform to spread awareness about various causes; championing women, anti-war efforts, the civil rights movement, and most recently, the global climate change movement. Inspired by young activist Greta Thunberg, Ms. Fonda is now a vocal advocate for climate change. She’s been arrested for protesting on Capitol Hill 5 times in the last 6 months (at 82 years old!) alongside past Visionary Women guests of honor Gloria Steinem and Rosanna Arquette. She’s recently garnered media attention for her presentation of the award for Best Picture at the 2020 Oscars, wearing a dress she had worn to a previous event – a bold statement about how the fashion industry is the second largest contributor to climate change. The Chara Schreyer Arts Initiative will debut the provocative work of Los Angeles-based, Made in LA artist Rosha Yaghmai, curated by Hammer Art Museum’s Erin Christovale. Yaghmai will unveil a thought-provoking life cast sculpture as part of an interactive art experience sparking the discussion around the female body, pregnancy, insecurities and hope. At the Visionary Women event guests will have the rare opportunity to interact with the piece by leaving hand impressions which will be incorporated into the exterior of the sculpture. The work will reflect the diverse voices of women uniting together.
