It's not hard to understand why people throng to Malibu. Its rugged rural beauty is unsurpassed and its wide sandy beaches beckon to residents and visitors alike with pristine ocean views. Malibu is a closely-knit residential community characterized by its carefully preserved rural atmosphere. Malibu's combined incorporated and unincorporated areas cover approximately 45,000 acres, is 27 miles long and one to eight miles wide.

Within these boundaries are a variety of climates and terrain including beaches, mesas and canyons that create a unique environment. The population is approximately 13,000.

From the Civic Center area, travel time to Santa Monica Airport is about 30 minutes, 45 minutes to Los Angeles International Airport and one hour to downtown Los Angeles…all of course depending on traffic.

The GETTY VILLA MALIBU is an educational center and museum dedicated to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. The Villa is Located at 17985 Pacific Coast Highway. Admission is free, parking is $8 and reservations are necessary and may be obtained by calling (310) 440-7300.

WEISMAN MUSEUM OF ART is located at 24255 Pacific Coast Highway, located on the grounds at Pepperdine University. The museum provides a fresh, engaging arts experience through an array of programs and a changing schedule of exhibitions. Open Tuesday - Sunday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is free. The historic ADAMSON HOUSE and the MALIBU LAGOON MUSEUM is located at 23200 Pacific Coast Highway. The house contains original furnishings and is decorated with the beautiful Malibu Potteries tiles. Hours are 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Wednesday - Saturday. Tuesday is reserved for groups and reservations may be obtained by calling (310) 456-8432. There is a parking lot adjacent to the museum, as parking is prohibited on the museum grounds. The Gift Shop hours are 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and you can reach them at (310) 456-9378. Admission is $5 for adults 17 and older and $2 for children.

The Malibu Lagoon Museum adjoins the Adamson House and contains a collection of artifacts, rare photographs and documents depicting the colorful history of Malibu. The museum tour takes the visitor from the early Chumash Indian era through the Spanish California culture. Learn about dramatic episodes in Malibu's rich history: the Malibu Railroad; the 50-room Castle on the Hill; the 17-year legal battle over a Malibu highway. Admission to the Museum is free.

RAMIREZ CANYON PARK, otherwise known as the Barbara Streisand donated estate, is located on 5750 Ramirez Canyon Road. Barbra Streisand donated this 22.5-acre estate to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy in December 1993. At the request of local neighbors along Ramirez Canyon Road, this property is only accessible to the public by appointment. Tours are available on Wednesdays, and advance reservations are required. Malibu Pier

The Malibu Pier is a historic landmark located in Malibu and surfers from around the world come to Surfrider Beach adjacent to Malibu Pier, to ride the waves. This seaside atmosphere will have even more to offer in 2008 with a number of restaurants and fun returning to the famous pier. The pier also has available, Deep Sea Fishing, Coastal Harbor Tours and Beach Equipment Rentals. New resturants will be opening soon!

MALIBU RIDERS, offers you horseback riding in the beautiful Zuma Canyon National Park. The trail is a 3-mile loop that climbs the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains. On this trail you will see breath-taking ocean, mountain, and island views. The cost is only $50 per person. Call for reservations 818 510-2245.

Wine Tasting in Malibu is known for our beautiful beaches, but we want you to discover our wines. Malibu Wines has a cozy tasting room nestled above the Malibu Coast line and is located at 31800 Mulholland Highway. Rosenthal Estate Wines tasting room is located at 26023 Pacific Coast Highway.

Malibu's Beaches, with 27 miles of coastline, Malibu has many beautiful beaches with spectacular views, hiking opportunities, surfing, swimming, and a great time to be had by those who visit, so come visit them all! The SURFRIDER REACH, ZUMA BEACH and LEO CARILLO BEACH are the most popular beaches in the area. Public access to other beaches along the highway is marked for your convenience.

Enjoy hiking, biking, camping in THE SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS CONSERVANCY (1-800-533-PARK) will provide a map and information regarding parks and hiking trails in the Malibu area. Goods and services may be obtained from quaint shopping areas located along the Pacific Coast Highway. A wide variety of overnight accommodations and eating establishments are available throughout Malibu.
